Local. Local. Local.

,
I'm never sure if I should send to you -- a facilitator for the Jan 8th event, "Gather and Talk" -- what I send to everyone who participated in this event, which was what I did last time I sent you an email.
I think I will though, and if you don't want to get this sort of email from me, let me know.
What I'm hoping to do, between now and the next time another “Gather and Talk” takes place, is to focus on things happening locally that those who participated in the Jan 8th event may not already know about.
There are two things I'm focusing on this week and that I sent out to participants of "Gather and Talk" just now.
If you want to get involved in these two things as well, that would be great!
Some of you already know about this, because you are on City Council:
1. City Council's Legislative Agenda for 2017
This document was given to me by Matt Chasansky, the manager for the Office of Arts and Culture for the City of Boulder.
He asked me to:
Share this document with you all
Have you all read it
Ask you to send your comments to City Council Members
Ask you to show up at the next City Council meeting to voice your opinion about what is missing from this document, what is not being addressed in this document, and what actions/plans/missions/visions you want the city to discuss that they are not discussing in this document.
Can you read this document, if you haven't already?
Can you share this document?
Can you call City Council Members to voice any concerns you might have in regards to this document?
Can you show up to the meeting when City Council is scheduled to discuss this document in March?
I don’t know the date for the meeting yet, but as soon as I hear back from Matt I will let you know. If any of you know what that date is, can you let me know so I can pass it on?
2.
This request comes from Erika Blum at The Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition (CIRC).
I have been in contact with Erika off and on since our gathering on January 8th, and her organization — like all other Immigrant and Refugee Organizations — is scrambling to keep up right now.
When I asked what I could do to help, she asked if our group would be willing to help hang up fliers, as that is what they need the most right now.
(CIRC just received a large grant to organize citizenship workshops throughout the state. In the Boulder area, they need to find approximately 88 people who qualify for citizenship in order to plan a workshop, which will include volunteers and pro bono lawyers to fill out and review the N-400 application forms.
They need to find the right people to come to these workshops, and she asked if anyone from our group would be willing to help with the flyering for this, as their staff is at capacity right now with everything that is going on).
I told her that our group is activated and ready to help out in any we can.
She breathed a huge sigh of relief.
Are you or your people able to help CIRC hang up fliers?
If so, email me and I can get you set up to do that.
Again, there is a ton more going on locally that you can find out about through this calendar.
If you want your event listed, let Josh know so he can include it: DirectColorado@gmail.com
Thanks everyone.
I am still hearing about all of the amazing things that happened in your small groups on January 8th, even though that was 3 weeks ago!
with warmth,
joanna
