Request for Volunteers to Help at Immigrant Forums

Two quick things before you start your weekend :

This comes directly from Boulder County via CIRC (Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition), which Gather To Talk is now a proud member of.  
Request for Volunteers to Help at Immigrant Forums:              
Immigrants in our community are urgently requesting accurate information and help in protecting their families. The Information for Immigrants project sponsored by Boulder County wants to reach out to as many people as possible.  We are providing several kinds of assistance to groups willing to hold Information Forums for Immigrants, and we need volunteers to help at these events.
 
Organizations hosting a Forum will do the following:   
1.       Hand out packets in English and Spanish with information about:
      ·    Knowing your rights as an immigrant
     ·    Making a Family Preparedness Plan, including legal forms to appoint a guardian for children and a financial agent in case the person is not here
     ·    Getting help from a lawyer

2.       Have a trained presenter go over the packet, in whichever language makes most sense to the participating population, and answer questions

3.       Provide volunteers to help participants fill out the two legal documents (guardianship appointment and financial agent) and witness them

4.       Have a Notary present to stamp the documents for people with adequate identification

These Forums need volunteers, some of whom speak Spanish, who can work individually with the participants as they complete the Guardianship and Power of Attorney documents.  The volunteers will also serve as witnesses, signing and dating the legal forms.
 
Another form of help will be to bring light refreshments for the event.  Food, beverages, plates, and napkins should be in their original, closed packages. They will be given to the organization sponsoring the event, which will in turn make them available to the participants.

Also, there is a Denver Citizenship Drive on Saturday March 11th from 9am-3pm.
