Butoh Workshop that Lucy mentioned
From Lucy, in regards to the Butoh Workshop she mentioned at rehearsal this past Friday:
Dear dancing friends,
I am helping host a friend of mine next Friday 12th, who is teaching a 2 hour movement workshop, 6-8pm. Details are below. Feel free to email me if you have questions or wonder if this is for you: superlucy4@gmail.com. Christopher is a senior student of Diego Piñon, whom I study with. This workshop will likely be energetic, fairly structured but with a lot of improvisation, and include elements of ritual. It is wild and wonderful stuff. It is unlike Joanna's classes in that there is not an invitation to be on the floor, following your own intuition!! There is a surrender to the group process and the guidance of the teacher that is involved - hence it is not for everyone!
Just pay at the door, no need to reserve a spot. There is also a link to the fb invite which you can respond to.
We have not confirmed the space yet but it will almost certainly be either CDC or MadeLife, both on Pearl and 21st. That information will appear on the fb invite linked below in the next 2 days.
We will be going out to dinner afterwards, probably at Mandala Infusion on Broadway.
in love and dance,
Lucy
Emptiness Dancing: Butoh and Movement Ritual

How do we die in order to be reborn, let go to be set free? How do we follow the ephemeral thread that is spooled at the core of our nature? We can use the opportunity to gather in sacred space and hold each other as we venture into our individual and collective depths. Here we frolic like children, confront, liberate and reflect. Here we attempt to fish for diamonds in the well, let out the peacocks and begin to polish the inner vision we hold ever so closely. But to let it out is to fly, to say what we don't know how to say, with our bodies, our shadows, our souls.
Christopher Mankowski is dedicated to the potential of art and ritual as a means to psychological, social and spiritual dialogue and transformation. They are currently obsessed with drag as an artistic and social tool to create dialogue around identity and expression; with how living song can open and transmit the essence of who we are beyond shape, form and thought; and how noguchi taiso and the poetry of a body of water can weave harmony into our cells. They recently began new research through The Workcenter of Jerzy Grotowski and Thomas Richards, have studied butoh extensively in Japan and have been touring and teaching internationally since joining The Carpetbag Brigade in 2009. Since 2012 they have been the international coordinator and disciple of Body-Ritual-Movement facilitator and master teacher, Diego Piñón.

As for Dog Dance, I am still waiting to hear on many things, but what I do know for sure is that we will take our field trip to DAM the afternoon of Jan 26th and then perform that evening.
I'll let you know as more details come in.
See you Friday!
