Save the Date: April 16th
Hey ,
Our next Gather to Talk Salon is on Monday, April 16th, from 6-8pm at The View of The World Gallery Space, 1930 Central Ave, Suite A.
Our topic of conversation will be "Perception vs. Reality”:
What do we perceive to be happening in our community, and what is actually happening in our community?
How is that perception based on who we are, where we live, and what our background is?
How do we step up and into our community with more awareness regarding this?
If you plan on being there on April 16th, email me so I make sure to hold a spot for you!
Also, I heard this about a multi-faith choir that brings survivors of the Bosnian War together, to sing.
These kind of stories get to me. It’s like they open up a new pathway in my brain and show me how to move forward in this world.
The Housing Legacy Program is one of those stories too, and it was started by our own Janice Zelazo, Gather To Talk Crew Member and Participant:
“The Housing Legacy program facilitates the donation or bequest of Boulder’s homeowners wishing to leave a legacy of affordable homeownership. Creating housing options for low, moderate and middle income levels protects the diversity in our community and keeps Boulder a truly unique city. Once donated, your home will be protected through the Affordable Homeownership Program."
And then there’s this:
Family members being separated.
In Boulder County.
Our neighbors, our friends, our classmates and colleagues.
There is a community meeting slated for Wednesday, May 2nd from 6-8pm with Sheriff Joe Pelle to talk about this.
The hope is that Sheriff Pelle hears, in a public forum, the way in which members of our community are being directly impacted by the immigration protocols he is following.
FYI:  Sheriff Pelle doesn't have to follow these protocols. He is not legally bound to follow them.
A precedent has been set for not following these immigration protocols by the Sheriff in Pitkin County.
We are asking Sheriff Joe Pelle to follow that precedent, and lead the way in welcoming and protecting our immigrant population in Boulder County, as they are doing in Pitkin County.
If you want to stand in solidarity with our immigrant neighbors and friends, show up for this one.

I know there is a ton you are doing already, and a ton you are showing up for.
But this one.
This a father being taken away from his two daughters because of a traffic ticket — in Boulder.
This is a DACA recipient being picked up by ICE -- in Boulder.
This is people being afraid of the police -- in Boulder.
So let’s all show up for this one:

Wednesday, May 2nd: 6-8pm at The Unitarian Church at 5001 Pennsylvania Ave, Boulder, CO 80303.
There are two more planning meetings for this:
Wednesday April 4th
Wednesday, April 18th
6-8pm, also at The Unitarian Church.
I’ll be at the planning meetings and the May 2nd event.
I’d love to see you there too.
And I'll also see you on April 16th, at our next Gather To Talk Salon, yes?
When it gets harder to love, let's love harder.
VAN JONES
With Warmth,
Joanna
