no newsletter today - something better!

No newsletter today my people -- am knee deep in making this dance film, The Sky Inside, and wow, it’s been like no other creative project I've ever embarked on:
I move the boulder up the hill, and it rolls back down.
I move the boulder up the hill, and it rolls back down.
I move the boulder up the hill, and it rolls back down.
I finally balance the boulder at the top of the hill, rush down to tell everyone, only to see that now I must weed the grass, one blade at a time, from a very large lawn.
I've only just started weeding.
Will send out my regular newsletter next week, on Wednesday, April 3rd.
Until then, got this announcement from Allison Blakeney about a really cool thing they are doing, and thought this was the perfect day to pass it along to you:
Excessive Realness: A queer dance intensive geared toward LGBTQIA+ people
Excessive Realness is a four-day dance intensive spanning Thursday June 27th to Sunday June 30th, 2019. This year, it will take place in Boulder, Colorado in partnership with The Department of Theatre & Dance at the University of Colorado Boulder. There will be four classes on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (9:00-9:50am, 10:00-11:30am, 12:00-1:30pm, lunch from 1:30-2:30pm, and 2:30-4pm). The intensive consists of exciting and unique dance classes from the lens of queer artists and educators:
Afro-Brazilian Dance – Taught by Kebrina Josefina De Jesus
Somatics Based Class – Taught by Leah Wilks
Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Masterclass – Taught by Donald C. Shorter Jr.
House – Taught by Dani Tirrell

Gender Fluid Ballet – Taught by Erika Randall*
Open Practice for Survival Project – Taught by Kristianne Salcines
* Ballet will take place each morning from 9-9:50am.
On the evening of Friday June 28th, we will hold a roundtable event to engage the artists, educators, and participants of Excessive Realness, as well as community members, in a discussion about LGBTQIA+ issues in dance. On the night of Saturday June 30th, there will be a free performance, entitled The SPILL, whereby the artists of Excessive Realness will perform upcoming dance and performance works.
Co-Directors Anthony Alterio and Allison Blakeney created Excessive Realness to address both the lack of dance education for LGBTQIA+ people, and the need to drastically change the modern and contemporary dance communities in order to make them more inclusive for LGBTQIA+ people. It is designed to provide a creative arena for LGBTQIA+ dancers to learn, share ideas, and engage in critical dialogue around dance, queerness, and the various other intersecting identities that LGBTQIA+ people hold.
Full intensive: $200.00 includes all classes EARLY BIRD SPECIAL: $160.00 UNTIL MARCH 31ST *
Day Pass or Any 4 Classes Pass: $60.00
Drop-in Single Classes: $18.00, or $12.00 for Ballet
*Scholarships are available on a need basis! Please contact us at Excessiverealness@gmail.com.
Will email you again next week, when most of the lawn has been weeded (I hope, I hope, I hope).
With Warmth,
