Oh, Joanna. 1000 yeses to this whole thing. When Phil and I created InterPlay, we knew the devotion that rises in dancing this way. We also knew we wanted to help people find their way there and that everyone is dealing with oversocialization. Freedom is in small structures that provide scaffolding. I've so enjoyed watching people open up to their organic connection in dance, voice, and story. That's where life is most trustworthy. Thank you 100000000 times for knowing it and offering it. Sending your piece to my kid, who is an addiction counselor at a men's prison. Grateful.
Hmmmmm....oversocialization! Never thought about it like that. And yes, about the freedom. I agree. Your words Cynthia, always help me to grow and expand in not only my work by the way I move through the world. So much appreciation for you, and the time you take to comment and write. I feel it from my head to my toes. Thinking of your kid working as an addiction counselor at a men's prison, and the profundity of that. Such important work that they are doing.
Awwwwww....what kind words. Thank you KMB. As I said to Katharine, I'm so glad this newsletter resonate with you in this way. Writing about the work in the prisons is one of the ways I can bring the work I am doing on the inside, to the outside, so it always heartening to know that it touched someone.
Jo, I cried during the whole thing! And then Lolo! I laugh, cried. Y (I heard Jane Fonda too--so great.) (even the title, Sunday at the Prison during Dance class. How do these things even match? Such a thing when the tatooed guy is so scared and then looses himself immediately. And how at the end they feel safe enough to give feedback. Lucky guys to have you.
Ah YOU. What a beautiful and full response Katharine. I am so glad to hear how much this newsletter resonated with you. Makes me really happy to know that - and I will the guys know too :)
